After Callum scored the Saints 1st goal on Thursday evening. Padiham Saints went into this match against Crown Paints Green on a high.
After soaking up early pressure the new formation of the Saints steady their grip on this game.
With Luke Murray anchoring the midfield which allowed Jamie Bleasdale and Jake Wilkin free roles in midfield and the tiresome running of Regan Kerr upfront created 2-3 nice moves in the first half.
Crown Paints threatened and the partnership of Alexander Wilkinson and Jack Muldoon kept them at bay with fantastic reading of the game along with fine tackling and in more than 1 occasion getting great headers in.
2 minutes before the break Crown Paints hit the lead with a great crossfield pass finding their man wide open, to open Crown Paints goal account not only for this game but for the season.
At half time losing 1-0 kicking uphill the boys had done every little thing what I asked of them. Luke had covered once again every blade of grass of the field and looked tired, on came Callum Gill, Jamie had patrolled his left side admirably came off for Ryan Buckley and making his debut was Matty Cosway came on for the hard working forward Regan.
Kicking downhill the Saints took command of the game, their passing soon became crisp and accurate, nice 1-2's were being used from Matty and our midfield creating space for other players to be involved. Callum tested their keeper with a rasping drive. It wasn't long before Jake found himself 1 on 1 with the keeper after fine work in the midfield. Jake cooly slotted the ball home to bring the game level 1-1.
A draw looked on the cards as both teams battled it out in midfield. Crown Paints always looked dangerous on set pieces, especially from corners. A great kick downfield from goalkeeper Max Robinson, saw Matty through on the keeper, and after spending a full training session on 1-1s with keepers, there was only going to be 1 winner. 2-1 Saints. Crown Paints pushed for the equaliser but met fierce resistance from the boys.
With the 1st win of the season, and every game a learning curve we look to get better and better, hopefully we can turn this result into more good performances.
