darwen rangers v rooks

darwen rangers v rooks

Postby paula sykes on Mon Jan 19, 2009 6:21 pm

on theday of the game i was quite anxious as their have been a few problems with training etc .then the opening whistle blew and we instantly took control of the game culminating in a couple of corners, from which ben scored directly from the second corner then came a terrific goal. jay robbed the oncoming player of the ball near the half way line moved foward beating a defender looking up and sending in a pinpoint cross to sudz who took a touch and calmly lobbed the goalkeeper. Then man of the match jay scored with a thunderbolt from 20 yards. And just before the break dec broke free and calmly ran half the pitch before finally slotting the ball into the net. The only time darwen looked like scoring in the first half was everybody appealed for a penalty against saints and every body stopped and the darwen player poked it towards the corner of the goal and kurt somehow got down and made a terriffic one handed save. Second half saints really piled on the pressure seeing both dec and reece score along with 2 goals from connor one was a peach 30 yard chip but what i considerd the goal of the game was when kurt rolled the ball out to jay who made a 30 yard pass down the touchline ben who played a simple pass onto reece who crossed from the right wing after beating a man to suddz who calmly took it in his stride and smashed it pass the keeper, he could also have scored one of the goals of the season running from the half way line beating 4 players cutting into the box and narrowly shooting wide of the far post. Well done to all the other players not mentioned ie. curtis for his on stop detemination and effort, and once again for the great defensive work of marc, matty, callum and chris. And finally to sum up i read your report jon and i totally agree about the goalkeeper throwing the ball out instead of kicking but on this occasion there was a reason behind it he had injured his ankle in training and couldn't kick.As i said to the players at half time and as your comment state jon it is no good for players sliding for in for a challenge and stay lying on the ground they need to get back up and chase the ball down. We also need to work on fitness as we were only about 60% fit today and the final summing up quite happy with the performance but i still know there is alot more in the locker and one day hopefully one of the top teams are going to suffer.

Second time

Postby Jon on Mon Jan 19, 2009 7:46 pm

Well James this is my second attempt at posting this, serves me right for trying to do more than one thing at a time on the pc, lost the first one.

Glad you remember who was involved in the plays, at best I remember the scorer and maybe who passed it and not necessarily in the right order.

Anyway, first off my apologies to the keeper, that'll teach me to get the facts before opening my mouth. Hope the ankle makes a full recovery. That said, the advice still stands for throwouts, why put yourself under pressure when there's to need to?

Rooks are a good side if not sometimes inconsistant, they will get better and have the ability when top form desserts them to win ugly and grind out a result. They've always been like that and probably always will be whilst you coach them.
It makes the hairs stand up on the back of my kneck thinking of the force they could be as 14 or 15yr olds if they can or want to stay together. The team generally plays for each other and there doesn't seem to be anybody on the fringe, i.e. not involved totally.

I too think that one day, it might even be next week, a team will meet them in full flight and really pay the consequences. We've so many goalscorers its unreal and as long as they continue to play an unselfish game goals will always come from somewhere.

All power to the Rooks, well done again lads.
